Four boys and one girl – Tubbie, Tim, Birdie, Jojo and Marie – have decided: "We are doing fine". While the rest of the world may regard them as oddballs, and the demands of real life cause problems for them all, the five find shelter and purpose in their surrogate family. Aimless and full of longing, they drift through the city's summer heat and cling to fleeting moments of happiness. Yet they sense that change is unavoidable, and soon the cracks start to show in the foundations of their close-knit group.
